Every so often a group of commited artists come together and create a place for smart, witty, and deeply meaningful work to be generated. Introducing
Court 13, a group out of New Orleans, that has garnered quite a bit of heartfelt support over the last few years. Their latest endeavor,
Glory At Sea (which has been nominated for numerous awards after its showing at the latest SXSW) is set in their home of New Orleans, immediately post-Katrina. While I think everyone should check out their most mature film to date, their other films, especially
Death to the Tinman, are insightful, smart and possess the disjointed irony of a Wes Anderson film that seems to be influencing so many of the twenty-something writers I know.
If there's one thing you should do before the semester begins, spending 10-25 minutes with one of Court 13s shorts is it.
